Veterans Day falls in the United States this week – on November 11. In other countries, similar observations are known as Remembrance Day or Armistice Day, but the commemoration is the same: a day of honor for all those who have served in the Armed Forces. The date itself marks the cessation of hostilities of World War I, which were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
Unfortunately, it seems most generations across the annals of history had wars and conflicts. While Veterans Day the holiday is a relatively modern invention, the concept of honoring those who served in the brotherhood of military service is perhaps timeless.
